Director Solutions Engineering - Network Security - Boston

Our client, a venture-backed developer of network security solutions is seeking a Solutions Engineer for its Boston location. This position requires regular presence at the Boston office, and 20-30% travel  to industry events and client sites.   Partial virtual office will be available later.


Market and Product Development
  • Work with business and product management executive team to develop Go-To-Market plans
  • Market segmentation, definition and requirements
  • Defining the solution that serves the targeted market verticals – including defining product requirements, product marketing plan and pricing
  • Creating and delivering sales and partner training for company’ s products to the targeted markets

Pre-Sales Engineering
  • Work with prospects, customers and subject matter experts, to obtain necessary information to design successful solutions and aid customers in their decision making process
  • Become the SME of the firm’ s and competitors’ products, as well as industry trends in network security and cryptographic technologies
  • Development, design and implementation of our client’ s security solutions involving multiple security products integrating with other vendor solutions
  • Provide support to the Boston sales team in defining strategies for successful sales and implementations of solutions in a broad range of applications
  • Conduct product demonstrations and other presentations to prospect technical staff and management, as well as non-technical audiences
  • Manage proposals, pricing, CRM updates and pipeline reporting and other sales support functions

Solution Testing, Demos and Product Implementation
  • Understanding typical customer use case scenarios
  • Build Proof of Concept (POC) with partners and prospect teams
  • Build and test in lab / cloud environment to prove functionality, usability and sometimes performance and scale
  • Capture results and drive discussion for product management, sales engineering and R&D purposes
  • Build demos for products to help product management, marketing and sales engineering with marketing
  • Installation of products and training of customers in their proper utilization.
  • Management of project delivery including management of internal development deliverables and customer deliverables

Education, Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor’ s degree
  • 5+ years of experience in working in a revenue-producing (Sales, Sales engineering, marketing, product management) or post-sales customer facing role (ie: technical consultant, security engineer)
  • Strong Go-To-Market skills
  • Strong Foundation of common OS (Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP/UX, MS Windows)
  • Experience in working with network security, PKI, encryption key, digital signature, data communication and other cryptographic concepts
  • Security related certifications preferred (e.g. CISSP, CCNA, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Networking and Security infrastructure devices and applications (e.g. firewalls, IPS/IDS, VPN, IP Networking, etc.)
  • Basic programming skills in common programming languages (e.g. Java, C#, C/C++)
  • Experience in training customers with Information Security products
  • Ability to analyze market trends, product trends and be able to make data-driven decisions
  • Channel-aware product strategy and development
